Three Great Opportunities To Shower Your Baby In Love

Books and advice on childbirth and childraising are thick on the ground. One whisper of impending pregnancy and the parents-to-be are bombarded with well-meaning words from friends, relatives, complete strangers and expert authors.

Now, its my turn to share three simple opportunities to welcome a baby into your family and shower it with love. Whether you are an experienced parent or new to the job, what I learnt with my three children will not only help your child to develop their abilities and senses, but will help the parent get to know their new baby and deepen the love they already have.

Sing to your baby at every opportunity

It doesn't matter whether you have a good singing voice or not, your baby will love it. Make up nonsense words or turn your activity into a song. This is especially good at changing, bathing and feeding times. Cheer baby up with a happy song and changing/bathing becomes much more enjoyable. Anxieties at being naked and freezing lessen as they learn this wonderful new game that is not only interesting, but gets them the undivided attention of the parent. Touch as you sing about gorgeous little toes and strong arms, silken hair and pudgy tummies. Babies are listening, feeling and learning. Who else in this world will ever pay you so much attention? In another few years, the baby certainly won't, so make the most of it while you can.

Sing a gentle song at feed times to help baby relax. Rock them as you feed and don't be scared to stand up and rock from side to side or slowly waltz around the room. This is relaxing for you both. Lullabies at night time help to send them off to sleep, and the babies will have their favourites so be prepared to learn a few and experiment with modulation and tempo. My eldest child preferred Silent Night. My younger two liked Rock-a-bye Baby sung very slow. This lullaby worked on my middle child until she was three!

Talk to your baby at every opportunity

Remember that baby is used to hearing your voice insitu. Chatting, reading, general conversation and questions invite the baby to respond, even if its only by smiling and making eye contact. Conversation also helps include the baby into the dynamics of family life. Teach your baby valuable skills right from the start simply by including them. This helps both parent and child. The child learns how to handle attention through growing confidence and esteem [established within the safety of the family]. The parent learns to understand how their child thinks and assimilates knowledge. In these early days, be aware of what you're teaching the child - strong values such as kindness and compassion, generosity and inclusion, and be sure to demonstrate them through actions as well.

Dance with your baby at every opportunity

Always my children's favourite part of the day. Turn the stereo on, crank up the volume and swing around the room! My children grew up with an appreciation of various types of music, especially jazz and swing because its fun to listen to when mum is also whirling you around the room. Not only is the parent getting some exercise, the baby is learning rhythm, harmony, coordination, and a sense of space. They are used to lots of movement so keep it up. I've watched young children, from the barely walking to seven or so years of age dance spontaneously to jazz music. Something in the mix is almost irresistible to their innate sense of rhythm and dance.

Nonsense dances to children's action songs like Knees Up Mother Brown will get the heart pumping and assist in coordination - the parents that is, and you'll have your babe giggling and chortling in no time! These type of songs are commonly available on CD, but if you're not sure ask at the local music shop or department store. Music for early childhood is big business!

I didn't pick these tips up from a book or hear them from a well-meaning friend, I discovered them with my first child. The first person ever who couldn't get enough of my singing and listened to every word that fell from my lips. Oh, those were the days! I carried the practise on and I now have three confident girls who love to sing and dance and talk my ear off. They are happy, well-rounded and know that if a great song comes on the radio I am happy to stop everything and sing or dance with them. None of us will ever be professional, but we sure have a lot of fun together.

Using Rapture Skills During Your Approach - Part One

A common problem among my students when it comes to approaching women has to do with creating an excitement around women they first interact with. A lot of these guys complain that there is no great way to bring a girl into a conversation and then keep her interested because the guy runs out of things to say to her.

A main consequence of this is the fact that she will make an excuse to leave the guy and the boring conversation behind her. When a guy is using too much canned material that he learned from another "Pick-Up Guru" and he is relying too much on those phrases and remarks, he can't just make the switch to his own conversational skills because he has none.

I have come up with a way in which you can set the mood with her high when you initially make contact with her and then keep getting the excitement level even higher using "Rapture Skills".

This set of seduction skills are perfect for inducing a girl to feel excited about any new topic you bring up that will actually correspond indirectly to the previous topic. This new skill will increase the new topic's potential for causing her to feel rapture just by listening to your new conversation with her.

LET HER BRING UP TOPICS THAT SHE IS MOST INTERESTED IN FIRST

The best way to get the ball rolling with using your new set of Rapture Skills is by asking the girl during the first approach with her what her favorite thing to do on the weekends are. She might say something like, "I like to go out with a few of my girlfriends and drink at my favorite nightclub." You can escalate her good feelings about being with her friends and drinking by saying, "I really like it when the music's pumping real loud and you look around and everyone's just getting totally wasted. I bet you know what I mean."

She will admit to having a great time at her nightclub and will even let you know what type of drinks she likes to have as well as describing to you the type of guy she likes to dance with. She will probably say, "Yeah. My friends and me like drinking Vodka shots and then we dance with each other until a guy just grabs me by the waist and I go off with him."

Now is the time to really set the rapture part of your conversation with her into outer space as you say, "So, it seems like you appreciate guys who take control of you on the dance floor. How about in real life? You like aggressive guys the best?" This kind of statement to her will make her visualize you as the type of guy who is not afraid to really show her that you mean business, just like the guys that grab her on the dance floor.

This type of conversation is obviously heading for a higher degree of sexual heat than ever before and she should respond with something like, "I guess so. Why? Are you a guy like that?" This is a perfect way for you to say something very ballsy to her and call her out on being so attracted to you already.

Be sure to read "Part Two" in the "Relationships: Dating" category of this website.

Become a Babe Magnet Without Surgery or Drugs!

"I'd like to find a partner who dances. Do you?" my profile on Match.com asked. My now-husband Drew emailed that he was willing to take lessons, and that was enough for me. Non-dancer Drews courage to put himself out on the dance floor and to show in lesson after lesson his amateur status was truly impressive. We took private dance instruction for a year before our wedding, and as a result, got around the dance floor quite gracefully at our reception.

Women are dying to dance. Any man who can ask a woman to dance, then take charge of what happens on the floor and move relatively smoothly to music, has enormous appeal. Fat or skinny, short, tall, or not even close to attractive, even old, old, old, a man who is comfortable on the dance floor has his pick of the ladies.

For whatever the reason, dancing intoxicates. Especially women.

Few men can really dance, and those guys are on the floor constantly. Some men think they can dance and do get up, ask the ladies, and have fun. But at least half the men sit or stand uncomfortably on the sidelines with all the women who wish to be on the dance floor.

We women don't get to dance nearly as much as we'd like to, even the ladies who are good dancers. There aren't enough dancing men to go around. You can almost feel the yearning, the sadness, and the disappointment in those women and between those non-dancing couples. And the non-dancing guys? Pathetic.

I personally know three women close to my age who met their now - spouses on the dance floor, and those ladies were great catches! Gentlemen and ladies, there's a message here.

Guys:

1. Take lessons and learn how to dance. Leading well takes skill, but if Drew could learn how, so can you.

2. Go to dances.

3. Ask women to dance. Lots of women. They'll love it. Even if you aren't so good, they'll appreciate your efforts.

Dance lessons themselves are good places to meet women, and most dance studios have regular parties for their students to practice what they have learned.

Ladies:

1. Take dancing lessons yourself and learn how to follow. Here I was, 50 years old, thinking I loved to dance, and I had no idea how to do the woman's part! Following takes skill! You have to figure out what your partner has in mind for you to do in a split second, and then actually do it, all while dancing backwards.

2. Buy yourself some real ballroom dancing shoes, maybe with high heels. Believe it or not, those shoes are comfortable. They have to be. Not only do they look very sexy, they stay on your feet!

3. Hang out at dances, too, if you like to dance. Single guys go to dances.

If you are connected to a dance studio, other single women will be at their parties as well as the studio instructors and male students, so you will know people. Dance parties are safe and comfortable for single women.

Guys -- nothing enhances as man's romantic marketability more than becoming a decent dancer. Learning to dance is cost efficient and relatively painless. No surgery or blood loss, no sweaty hours at the gym, no personality makeovers needed. Just dance lessons.

What's stopping you? Look up the dance studio nearest you and make that call! You'll become a dancing babe magnet!

The "Stag Line": A Cape Breton Dance Hall Etiquette (part of Cape Breton Social Heritage)

The Stag Line, a male high school dance etiquette, was certainly indigenous to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia Canada.

Remember those Cape Breton school dances in the 1960s?

The community hall or gymnasium would be dimly lighted by a few flood lights. Whether the music was delivered by a jukebox, a DJ or live band, the use of a color organ and strobe light was prevalent. Waiting in anticipation of being asked to dance, the teenage ladies were seated along the walls of the dance floor while some of the young girls started things off by dancing with each other.

In Cape Breton this familiar 1960s dance scene now took a radical depart from the norm. The young gents, dressed in typical macho denim jeans 'n jacket, entered the dance hall 'struttin' their stuff'. Then, like "the March of the Penguins", these young males, 2 or 3 abreast, began a deliberate saunter (always in counter clockwise direction) around the dance floor.

This procession of "eligible male dance partners" (hence the name '''stag line''') expanded with more guys joining their buddies in the "dance floor walk about". In short order, this stag line grew to a solid moving procession (2 to 4 wide) of guys. For the entire evening, this organized stag line circled the dance floor, positioned between the dancing masses and the eligible ladies sitting along the edge of the gymnasium.

What was the purpose of this Cape Breton dance-matching ritual?

Being in the stag line, provided each male ample opportunity (multiple loops of the dance floor) to scope out the females, both dancing and sitting. He would spot his next potential dance partner. With both the encouragement and jabs from his immediate stag line buddies, once he worked up the nerve, (usually after 4-10 passes) the male would simply step out of the stag line in front of the chosen sitting lady and request a dance.

Now here is the shear brilliance of the stag line. It really was a simple male support system for those almost always shy and awkward teenage guys working up the courage to ask a girl to dance. If the female response was affirmative, the gentlemen simply escorted her to the dance floor then danced to as many tunes as was enjoyable for both. When the dancing was ended by either party, the guy escorted her back to her seat and then (this is perfect) rejoined his comrades in the stag line parade.

Now, should a female's response to a dance request be 'negatory' or even a little hesitant, the "stag line extracted" male need simply to step back into the line right next to the comfort and support ( or jabs) of his buddies. And likely only a few people even noticed the rejection let alone the valiant attempt. Everyone kept face. And the recovering male, once re-composed, would start the hunt for the next dance partner.

How did the stag line practice get started?

One plausible theory about the origin of the stag line is that at a dance enters the local 'fonzie, tough guy with his entourage of tough guys. Being the top catch for any lady, these tough guys started to strut in front of the ladies seated around the dance floor. Low and behold, the 'regular', 'not so tough', 'but wanting to be part of the tough guy club' guys started following behind these tough guys. And so the 'stag line' was born. The stage line phenomenon appears to have only survived the 1960's teenage generation. Not sure if any photographs have captured this social dance practice.

So the stag line really brought a kind social order to Cape Breton teenage dances. No one got hurt and males learned to deal with rejection and ridicule in a more supportive (sometimes not) team environment.

Maybe stag lines should re-introduced for those over 50 dances. If for no other reason, seniors would get their walking exercise. Picture that.....

Laila Ali - From Ring to Dance Floor

Laila Ali's inspiring career as a boxer, following in her famous father's footsteps, has only been enhanced by her life and accomplishments outside of the ring.

Laila Ali was born December 30, 1977 to former Heavyweight Champion of the World Muhammed Ali and his third wife, Veronica Porsche Anderson. She is currently the women's boxing Triple Crown Super Middleweight Champion as well as a contestant on ABC's popular Dancing with the Stars.

Ali earned a degree in Business Management at Santa Monica College and then went on to own and operate a successful nail salon in California. She had planned to attend the University of Southern California Business School, but after watching women's boxing on television for the first time, she decided to become a boxer. Approximately a year later, Ali sold her business and started training to become a professional fighter.

Ali made her professional boxing debut on October 8, 1999, at the age of 21. She insisted that the press not record videos of this fight. Her opponent, April Fowler, was a 0-1 fighter who worked as a waitress. 31 seconds into the 1st round, she knocked out her opponent, April Fowler. After Ali's pro debut, she told reporters that she had made her father proud, and that she would knock out every one of her opponents and that it was a promise.

Ali went on to win her next 8 fights by knockout, and in October of 2000, she beat the then-reigning champion Kendra Lendhart. She won 3 more belts in 2002. On August 17, 2002, she became the new IBA super middleweight champion after defeating Suzy Taylor in the second round. Next, she had to beat Christy Martin, who was considered the best female fighter in the sport. On August 23rd, 2003, Ali knocked Martin down for the first time in 50 professional bouts, and stopped her in the fourth round.

In her last fight, on February 3rd, 2006, Ali knocked out her opponent, Gwendolyn O'Neal, in just 56 seconds. The bout, which was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, was attended by Nelson Mandela. Ali had the opportunity to meet him prior to the fight.

Download Your Music

When downloading or looking for music, it's easy to find a site that will download songs and movies, but unfortunately not all of them have the selection you want. You can just point and click to get whatever you want, and not worry if something is in, and not worry about individual costs. Some companies let you download individual songs, but the cost and selection is annoying, or on the other hand, pay a flat fee, but never be able to keep the songs, and once again their selection is a bit of a pain.

There are a couple of steps that you need to take to make sure that you have an easy experience. Make sure you have the room on your hard drive for the movies and the music. A big complaint with the normal download sites are that lack of selection, and your media player has a large problem with the navigation, and it can be hard to find everything. You won't have to worry about that again, find your music, listen to whatever you'd like. In your folders, make sure that you create separate names and separate folders so managing your music and movies would be a lot easier. Find your movies and your TV shows as well, with the same ease as the music.

The navigation is very simple, and you shouldn't have a problem with it at all. It's all broken down, and is very user friendly. Enjoy the new interface, and enjoy the availability of the new music, and the classics.

The Quest for Online Jazz Guitar Lessons

There are many books on jazz and jazz lessons available at online shopping sites like Amazon, but these books can be somewhat cold for the learner, because there is no communication between the author of the method and the student. This is just one of the reasons people turn to online guitar lessons.

Why people prefer online courses as opposed to conventional books:

1. Some Online courses are paid for in monthly instalments which are usually much cheaper than paying a jazz master for weekly classes. This is thanks to the amount of people they can reach worldwide. The more students they have, the less they need to charge each student to cover their operating costs and salaries. Some courses are even a one time payment, so you will not be charged again!

3. You get unlimited access to lessons whenever you want to study, and just like with books, the added advantage that you can learn at your own pace. ...Even at 3 o'clock in the morning.

4. Most guitar online courses have contact information for you to use if you need help with anything you do not understand, or something you are having trouble with.

5. These courses also make use of multimedia tools like mp3 downloadable backing tracks and examples of the exercises being learned; videos so you can see the exercises being executed by a real teacher or teachers, and software helpers like chord finders and tuners, which often come free with your subscription.

Final words

The best way to learn jazz is, no doubt, having your own private mentor to show you what you need to learn, when you need to learn it, and the best way to achieve your end goals. But conventional lessons are expensive and many wanting to expand their musical skills may have obligations which limit their being able to attend lessons at conventional times. Thanks to Internet we have the perfect alternative: the online lesson.

Staying Power - The Bars And Restaurants That Stand The Test Of Time

Here today, gone tomorrow, bars have a reputation for short-term success. But a few have the ability to ride the times and keep on top of the game.

Ten years ago, I was sitting in The Groucho Club one late summers evening discussing with a now well known haute couture designer, the new wave of drinking culture that was enveloping the capital, arguing that London really had never been so exciting. Up until that point, drinks were very much a secondary element of the overall experience wine was simply white or red, beer came only in a pint glass and vodka was whatever paint-stripper the barman chose to pour. But in the nineties, we were on the cusp of a cocktail movement. New-world wines were making the Chardonnay and Shiraz as commonplace as the Bordeaux, while new conceptual drinks like Red Bull were seriously shaking up the market, broadening peoples drinking landscape and challenging us to think about drinking as more of a lifestyle. Slowly, what was behind the bar appeared to be taking over the focus of the night. People were whispering rumours of late night bars that were open into the wee hours, where glamourous glitterati rubbed hips with the international jet-set over Manhattans and Martinis. They, along with The Groucho, were the places everyone wanted to be seen and their popularity seemed untouchable to all but the most cynical.

Of course, everything has a lifespan, we cynically agreed: fashion is dead in a season, and a fashionable bar well you wouldnt want to bet the house on it would you? We both concluded that fashions simply cant last and those bars, which today were the subject of snaking queues, would quickly turn to yesterdays news as would the drinks that were being quaffed within. Of course, in most cases we werent far wrong. Mondo, Saint, Titanic, Riki Tik... all have fallen by the wayside having once been celebrity favourites of their day. Many others have turned from exclusive A-list excellence to godawful tourist tat. The Gin Sling became the Sea Breeze became the Bramble became the Vanilla Mojito

But its not all doom and gloom. Today, another ten years hence, I am back in the same leather couch of the same Groucho, and ordering from the menu a Red Bull, a drink whose ability to transcend fads and trends seems to symbolise the aspirations of nightlife culture. It has history and heritage and has attained almost timeless appeal. Fashionable works for a while, but every owner, manager and promoter hopes and strives for one thing ultimately and that is to be the next classic. Because the classics, while small in number, exist on a plain far superior to fashion. Dotted amongst the sprawling community of one-off wonders that populate the bar world, a few classics really have stood the test of time, riding the cyclical waves to achieve immortal credibility. The Groucho is one of those timeless classics. Through the years it has always been at the top of its game, its members list comprising the same names that populate the pages of the celebrity press together with the successful and powerful in the world of media.

Nowadays, octogenarian founder members sit comfortably alongside young achievers and its long-term future would appear to be set in stone. Embassy is another long-time winner or more to the point, its ever-present Rock n Roll proprietor, Mark Fuller, who ran the original Embassy twenty years ago with equal success. This most recent incarnation of one of Londons most famous clubs, now with a fine dining restaurant that counts among the capitals very best, and glitzy nightclub in the basement, is a rare constant in the oscillating world of the fashionable. Another face that has always been associated with bar and club supremacy is Jake Panayiotou who ran original celebrity hot-spot, Browns for a decade before moving on in its hay-day. His last few years at the helm of the Wellington Club in Knightsbridge have seen the age-old members club climb to yet new heights. But its not only members clubs that can battle through the ages unscathed. Music-led venues such as Medicine Bar in Islington, Bar Rumba, The Cross, Bar Vinyl and The End have all proved their mettle, while the likes of Hanover Grand, The Gardening Club and Iceni have collapsed into the annuls of hip history.

So, what is it that sets the one-hit-wonders apart from the immortals? What makes a classic? Three characteristics seem to pump through the veins of all the long-term winners.

Quality, choice and adaptability, says Cas, The Grouchos pre-eminent bar manager, as he deftly shakes up cocktails from behind the bar. You have to offer a quality experience in the drinks, the music, the food and the people. You must give customers what they want and you have to adapt to the times. Subtly underlining the point, my Red Bull silently arrives at the table on its own tray, dressed with a single, perfectly folded napkin.

Can staying power really be so simple to achieve? With twenty years of success behind The Groucho, the club is quite an authority on the subject, but it was Darwin who concluded that the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting to their environment. Sounds pretty familiar to me and, lets face it, you cant argue with Darwin.

HERE TO STAY

Our selection of bars that we think will still be doing it in ten years time

MAYFAIR: Embassy

An all-round club for the all-round socialite, Embassy offers food on a par with Michelin starred restaurants, drinks that are as good as any great cocktail bar, a basement club and a guestlist that could double as a whos who of London.

COVENT GARDEN: The End & AKA

One of the capitals most respected dance music venues, with Mr C behind its success. Music is always ahead of its time and drinks are a world away from most dance music venues.

KNIGHTSBRIDGE: Wellington Club

With over 100 years of history, The Wellington has been reborn as an exclusive hangout for the citys hippest. Lounge bar and club rolled into one and popular with the paps and the press alike.

WEST: Woodys

On the banks of Londons longest canal, Woodys has become accepted as the members bar for the music industry. Three floors of food drink and dance with a collection of the best music and cocktail mixologists in the country.

ISLINGTON: Medicine Bar

It was the bar that put Islington on the credible map. One of the original DJ bars that has been made a home to the clubbing community of the 1990s.

CAMDEN: Bar Vinyl

Reputedly the first DJ bar in London, Bar Vinyl combines a record shop with the only bar in Camden really worth its salt. The bar is minuscule, but the offering is enormous and the future is vast.

SHOREDITCH: Home

One of the originators of the Shoreditch movement, Home made its mark before all of the others and continues to hold its own. It has moved from a scraggly basement bar to a slick, but funky cocktail bar and restaurant and continues to define the times.

SOHO: The Groucho

A favourite media hangout, The Groucho is like a party in your own front room with the kind of people that anybody would eat their own right arm to have turn up at their party. Now with a more modern bar on the first floor to complement the leather and wood ground floor classic, it is a members bar that suits all and bound to see in another twenty year term.

HOXTON: Zigfrid

A newcomer to the Hoxton set, Zigfrid is most likely to be here in ten years. Brainchild of leading bar designer, Paul Daly, it appeals to the more creative Hoxtonians and since the district is a hotbed of creativity, its proving pretty popular.

FITZROVIA: Social

A collaboration between bar gurus The Breakfast Group and music gurus, Heavenly Social, this backstreet concrete bunker of a bar offers some of the best DJ-led and live music about. Now with sister venues in Islington and Nottingham, Social is destined for a big future.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Cuban Salsa

Dance has been an important part of rituals, celebrations and entertainment since before the birth of human civilisation. In the beginning, before we had written language to record things, the purpose of dance was often to tell stories and to pass them down to future generations.

The story of dancing in Cuba

In Cuba, as in ancient times, dance tells its own story. The passion and energy of Cuban dance reveals the strength and conviction of the Cuban people, determined to enjoy life despite 'la lucha' (the struggle) of living in a strictly regulated country where the average monthly wage comes in at around 400 pesos - less than 10.

The richness of Cuban music and dancing also tells the story of Cuba's melting pot of cultures. From the high-stepping flamenco brought by the Spanish settlers in the 15th century to the frenzied tribal dances of the West African slaves, dancing is in the blood of the Cuban people.

From the teenage girl in denim shorts to the cigar-seller on the street corner, Cubans are given to break into spontaneous dance steps. Furthermore, the people dancing on the streets of Havana are likely to be just as good as the professionals, because in Cuba dancing is simply a way of life.

The variety of Cuban dances

Cuba boasts a huge range of dances including classical ballet, contemporary, flamenco and folk dancing. But it is the partnered routines that appeared in Havana dancehalls between the 1920s and the 1950s - Salsa, rumba, mambo and cha-cha-cha - that can be seen in every Cuban bar, club and street. Of these, Salsa is the most popular dance internationally.

Since the name 'Salsa' (it's Spanish for 'sauce') was coined, Salsa dancing has exploded in popularity in Latin America and across the world. Salsa dancing classes are now hugely popular but to really get into the swing of it a Salsa holiday in Cuba itself is a must.

Tips for Cuban Salsa dancing

If you do take yourself on a Cuban holiday, you'll have the unique experience of watching Cubans Salsa dancing. It sometimes appears that by some genetic aberration they have been born with super flexible joints, defying physics to carry out all the complex manoeuvres they have integrated into the dancing. Their remarkable twisting body movements and natural sense of rhythm will dazzle you.

If you have the right technique, Cuban Salsa is easier to learn than many other forms of dance. The basic footwork is a fairly simple walking motion, pausing every fourth beat, and there are some six basic steps you can follow to make sure you're on the right tracks.

1 Relax

To dance Cuban Salsa well it is important not to rush, but to relax into the steps. Movements should be precise and deliberate in addition to being flowing and smooth.

2 Walk with purpose

Salsa dancing involves a continual circular motion. Couples walk around each other with an imaginary axis between them. This makes turns look smooth and effortless. Walking gives time to untangle your arms after each turn.

3 Have confidence in your lead

The leader (usually the man) should have constant tension in his arms, while his hands guide his Salsa dancing partner around the floor. There is no need to clamp onto each other's hands, only to use the right amount of tension to provide a leading signal.

4 Be flexible when following

In order to follow well, ladies should try to match the tension of their partner. The exception to this is when arms need to be relaxed and flexible to complete arm-twisting Salsa moves without injury!

5 Keep balanced when you spin

The key to all the spectacular spins in Salsa is not to lose your balance. One way to do it is by spotting while you spin - focussing on one spot at each turn - an age-old dance technique.

6 Use your body

In Salsa dancing, ladies should make use of their body and be sensual, playful and creative. This can involve some creative arm movements, going with what feels right and basically showing off a bit. Enjoy!

Emma Lelliott is the general manager of Captivating Cuba, an independent Cuba holiday specialist. With offices in Havana and the UK, Captivating Cuba can offer Cuban Salsa holidays to Havana as well as expert advice on holidays to Varadero and Cayo Coco and lesser known resorts such as Jibacoa and Trinidad.

The NTDTV Chinese New Year Spectacular Presents: The Ladies of the Manchu Court

Against the background of a golden throne hall projected onto a gigantic screen with the melodious music of the Qing Dynasty, a group of beautiful Manchu geges emerges elegantly in a line from one side of the stage, wearing deep blue Manchu midi, dalachi-style headgear, and typical Manchurian-style flowerpot shoes with three-inch heels. Walking out in small graceful steps, they started dancing delicately.

With the stunning gege dress, the graceful music coupled with the strong color of Manchu and the exquisite choreography, the brilliant young dancers from the Feitian Dance School and Lotus Art Group beautifully display the virtues and elegance of traditional females in the Flowering Age of Kang Xi and Qian Long.

The gege dance eloquence and graceful style is actually amazing! It connotes not only the virtues and grace of the noble females, but the entire Flowering Age of Kang Xi and Qian Long is able to match the great age in the Tang Dynasty. The audience could get a true feeling for the portrayal of substantial prosperity, confidence, and spiritual tolerance.

Some of the shows, such as the "Ladies of the Manchu Court" performed by the Fei Tian Dance School, were also eye opening for the Chinese members of the audience. Some were commenting about the fact that they had never seen anything like this before. I could hardly believe my eyes, that those dancers could actually dance gracefully and in harmony wearing those horseshoes also called flowerpot shoes.
When the huge curtain slowly falls down, the classy geges gradually disappear in front of the audience, leaving a magnificent, historic, and permanently lasting picture in their memory.

Besides the traditional Chinese dance and music, this year's show includes depictions of the Chinese heroine Mulan, loyal Song Dynasty general Yue Fei, and many more. It also includes an artistic portrayal of a Falun Gong practitioner being beaten and killed by police in China. The practitioner ascends to the sky after being killed, whereas the policemen who beat her face retribution.

Why not celebrate the Year of the Pig in a Spectacular way and treat yourself to a sumptuous feast of ancient Chinese culture the NTDTV Chinese New Year Spectacular.

Why Would a Guitarist Want to Know about MIDI?

Because there are MIDI guitars! And there are MIDI interface attachments for regular guitars.
You can make totally new sounds, change your existing sounds, or add instrumentation
you never thought possible before!
So let me give you the rundown!
Historically the Musicical Instrument Digital Interface, or MIDI, got started with MIDI keyboards.
Although there were researchers and hobbiests experiementing with other MIDI devices including guitars,
it was predominantly a keyboard world.

If you used a keyboard standalone (or without a PC), the MIDI keyboard MIDI out would be connected to the MIDI in of a sound module or other keyboard. The keyboard could then be used to play
multiple sound modules at the same time.
If you used a MIDI keyboard with your PC, a MIDI keyboard MIDI out would be connected to your PC's MIDI in. The PC's MIDI out would be connected to the keyboard's MIDI in. When you press a key on the MIDI keyboard the MIDI note number and velocity (how hard you hit the key) is transmitted over the MIDI. This is somewhat like an old piano-roll piano. If you've ever examined one, you know the holes in the roll let a pin slip through as the paper rolls by (with the speed that the roll is turning controlling the tempo). And the pin corresponds to the piano key that will be hit at a particular time (relative to the start of the roll). MIDI data is like this except it also includes some dynamics (i.e. how hard the key was hit). When the keyboard is operated "standalone", normally the MIDI out just loops back to the MIDI in. This is done internally so you don't need to put a MIDI cable in. Most MIDI keyboards let you turn off this automatic loopback when you're working with a PC so that you don't get double notes from the keyboard and from the PC echoing it back. It's as if the keyboard and sounds are two separate pieces. There's an assumption here. The PC must have some software directing the MIDI connectors on the PC for this to happen. That software is usually a MIDI sequencer which functions almost like a multi-track analog recorder. With the MIDI sequencer running, you start the record function and the sequencer program will store all the MIDI notes it receives into memory (and let you file them to disk later into a MIDI file). The recorded MIDI file can be examined with a graph showing the notes (and it looks almost exactly like a piano-roll). Most sequencer software is smart enough to display (and print) in standard musical notation as well. Cool!

There are a couple more wrinkles, but good ones. In addition to MIDI note number and velocity, there's a channel associated with MIDI transmissions. MIDI allow up to 16 different channels over the cable "simultaneously" (in quotes because I'm fibbing a little). Just like the cable TV coming into your house has 50 or 500 channels at the same time you can set a MIDI device to send or receive on a specific channel and it will only send or respond to notes for its channel. But you may have a TV with a preview capability that shows a whole bunch of TV channels at once so you can surf channels. Well some MIDI devices are like this. Actually most MIDI devices are like that these days. They can handle multiple channels at one time. Which is to say the MIDI device can "play" multiple instruments at the same time by being able to listen to multiple MIDI channels and play the notes for which each instrument is assigned. This assignment can be done on the MIDI device's panel or sometimes by using a computer program running on the PC. This way you can have a whole band in one keyboard -- piano, bass, percussion, vibes, flute, etc. As a general rule, as the number of instruments and/or simultaneous notes the keyboard can play increases, so does the price! And some MIDI keyboards have the squencer built in so you don't even need the PC.

There are lots of freeware, shareware, and open-source MIDI sequencers out there, so just query your favorite search engine.

There are MIDI guitars, and MIDI interface attachments for regular guitars.
You can play your guitar and have it sound like a flute, or trumpet, or
a string section, or depending on the synthesizer or synthesizers you use,
it can sound like a flute AND a trumpet AND a string section AT THE SAME TIME!
For backing or solo work, your universe of sounds expands.
It opens a whole new world of music making for you!

I like to play guitar, talk about guitars, and collect them. So many guitars, so little money!

Make Your Honeymoon Unforgettable - Ideas for Honeymoon

Honeymoon is a very special occasion, and its proper planning can give you unforgettable moments in life.
You can decide your honeymoon place with your partner. When both of you have similar interests, you are likely to choose a common place, and that will be great.

You can choose a cruise for a perfect honeymoon. Now-a-days, most of the cruises provide honeymoon packages for newly wedded couples. A five-day journey on the cruise can be good enough.

If you or your partner likes sports, you can head for some suitable place that is full of sport. Arizona will be a very good option in such a case. You can enjoy the day playing games with your partner. A romantic dinner at the end of the day will make the tour unforgettable.

It is not necessary to choose a very expensive place for a honeymoon. All that matters is how creative you are, and how good you are at making moments quite romantic.

Arranging a candle light dinner at the roof of your place or in your own room can do magic. You can play light music at night in your room, dance to the music with your partner, and initiate a romantic conversation with him or her. The main idea is to please your partner with your creativity, and make him or her feel special through your actions.

All that matters in a honeymoon is how you make every moment beautiful. Instead of spending a lot of money on expensive tours, you can go to any beautiful and romantic place that suits your budget, and create unforgettable moments.

80s dance music

Get Up and Dance!

I still remember the "dances" in the gym when I was a tenth-grader in school. They were excruciating affairs; girls animatedly chattering on one side of that big room, boys squinting silently at the girls from the other. No dancing. No talking. Vague, compelling inner churnings and urges, but no action.

My mother and father loved to dance, but had no outlet. In our house, just outside a tiny western New York state town, they sometimes waltzed in the living room. I remember them as quite graceful together, doing their ballroom steps in the lamp-light.

As for me, I showed no evidence of dance-ability in my youth. I was shy, physically awkward after an early bout of polio, and very self-conscious.

Fast forward to 1968.

I was your friendly anchorman on the evening local television news. I reported all over the south, mostly following the swirling civil rights battles that flared in small and large towns alike. I interviewed Ralph Abernathy and Dr. Martin Luther King, and I watched history up close and personal.

Most of the civil rights demonstrations began with gatherings at the local black churches. This skinny white journalist from the north stood in churches packed shoulder-to-shoulder with brave black people, their faces hopeful and intensely alive, who swayed and sang gospel songs, knowing they would soon be beaten and jailed.

When they sang and swayed, I swayed with them. It was in those churches that I began to feel connected to my body in any form of movement-as-expression.

Then there was the 'counterculture'... free-love hippies, marijuana smokers, vastly talented musicians. They certainly knew how to move and dance.

I covered this culture, too, short-haired, in a coat and tie. I didn't dance, but I watched. And I like to think it all finally penetrated my tight self, like WD-40 on a seized-up part. The black churches, the hippies, the incredible music of the times finally got into me.

I quit the TV job, and someone turned me on to marijuana. Well yes, I had to move then. And sing. And begin to learn about love. And I started to dance.

It was free-form rock and roll dancing. The music carried me away, and I found, to my delight, that I had a talent and love for dancing.

Fast forward to 1992 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

I was a marriage counselor in private practice (No, I never went back to broadcasting), and I still loved to dance. In Santa Fe, that meant doing the country two-step, waltz and swing.

I had discovered that, unlike those times at the gym at high school, I was a pretty popular guy. It wasn't necessarily my sterling personality. I discovered this secret: If you are a man 35 or older who is clean, polite, employed and can dance, you are a rare and precious commodity, and the women will line up to dance with you. I danced at least three nights a week, and it was a blast.

And that was where I met my wife, Betsy. She was one of the women on those dance floors, and we danced for eight years before we ever had a date. I didn't think she was my 'type'. The women who were my type kept turning out to be disasters on two feet, so I finally decided to date outside my type, and there was Betsy.

When we married, we were the last couple on the dance floor with the band at our reception, well after midnight, dancing and dancing.

We sometimes tell people the "eight years dancing before a date" story, and they all go, "Awww... that's so sweet!"

It's more than sweet. Dancing is very intimate, even when you aren't involved or especially friendly off the dance floor. You must feel, anticipate and know each other on a wordless level to be good dancers together. You must be able to lead and follow, to blend, to move quickly or slowly, to synchronize. It's good training for a relationship.

Now that my knees are cranky, we don't dance so much. But we still love it, and when a great band comes to town, we go, and we dance at least one full set. We used to dance three sets, but one is very satisfying now.

So, my friends, get up and dance... good things will happen!

Bandera, Texas: Cowboy Capital of the World

Wanna be a cowboy? That's an easy order to fill in Bandera, Texas, nicknamed "The Cowboy Capital of the World." In this community, located 50 miles northwest of San Antonio on TX 16, you cant toss a horseshoe without hitting a dude ranch, rodeo ground, western wear store, or dance hall.

Banderas Western heritage is a big draw to todays travelers but its roots date back to the founding days of Texas. Bandera Pass, located twelve miles north on TX 173, was first the site of numerous battles between the Spanish conquistadors and both Apache and Comanche Indians. According to one local legend, a flag (or bandera in Spanish) was placed here to mark the border between the forces.

Today the Wild West atmosphere lives on both in town and in the surrounding dude ranches. Whether youd like to "cowboy up" for a few days at a dude ranch or just grab some boots and dance to Western tunes along Main Street, Bandera has plenty of opportunities to get in touch with your inner cowboy.

Dude Ranches: Bandera is well known for its many dude ranches, the perfect way for you and your family to experience life as a cowboy for a few days. Properties like the Flying L Guest Ranch, the Mayan Ranch, Dixie Dude Ranch, and Twin Elm Guest Ranch will keep you busy with horseback rides, hayrides, fishing, cookouts, and more. You dont have to have any previous riding experience to enjoy the ranches. Typically the guest rates include three meals a day as well as Western entertainment and even supervised kids' programs. During the peak summer months, expect a minimum stay at many ranches.

Rodeos: Bandera is also synonymous with rodeos. One favorite held every Tuesday and Friday through the summer is at the Twin Elm Guest Ranch. For professional action, check out the Cowboy Capital PRCA Rodeo, held in May.

Honky Tonks: Another city might call them nightclubs, but there's nothing fancy about Bandera; this town proudly calls their downtown bars honky tonks. Live country music can be found most nights. One of the best known is Arkey Blues Silver Dollar. Dont miss the sawdust-covered floor (to encourage plenty of boot-scootin). Also on Main Street, the Cabaret Dancehall has shook to the sounds of country music for seven decades and often hosts many big name acts.

Cowboys on Main: During the warm weather months, downtown Bandera is transformed with a Saturday event called Cowboys on Main. Scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. right on Main Street, the event features horseback riding cowboys, storytellers, trick ropers, musicians, and a lot more. The event is sponsored by the Frontier Times Museums Living History Project. Save some time for a sop at the Frontier Times Museum. The museum dates back to 1927 and is a good place to learn more about Bandera's early days through cowboy paraphernalia, Native American arrowheads, and prehistoric artifacts.

For more information on vacationing in Bandera, call the Bandera Convention and Visitors Bureau at 800.364.3833 or 830.796.3045.

Party Ideas For Your Wedding Reception

The new couples do not essentially have to tag on the same status quo. Every couple want to make there wedding reception different from the old tradition ways. Rareness is the one essential thing which makes a wedding reception a memorable one. The guest have seen a lot of events that follow the same style, so if you plan your wedding reception in a novel and unique way, they will surely remember it for every.

New York City has changed the old format of the wedding receptions. It has made a lot of modifications in the traditional wedding lay outs which suits the contemporary times and reflects unique features and personalities of couple.

The old and boring way of announcing the wedding reception party again and again should be replaced. Now, the people in NYC announce the bridal party once and play the much beloved music in the back ground as the guest enters the hall.

New York reception lounges remain incomplete with out drinks. You can plan a cocktail party and become a part of it. You can participate in this occasion and interact and mingle with the guests. This cocktail party can be a real fun with a great music.

The wedding reception should include dance. In fact it is a must to go mad and enjoy. The dance should not be formal. The guest should feel free to dance anytime they wish. The music should be fantastic so that the guest can enjoy dancing. It is very important to keep in mind that the host of the evening should be excellent. He should have the talent to keep the guest entertained and involved. No one should be left behind. The DJs are a must in the parties these days especially in places like NYC, etc. They have gained a lot of popularity.

The people in NYC plan their own wedding reception rather than going to an event planner. They organize it in a way which is unique that suits their style and personality.

How To Attract Women At A High School Party

We, as teenagers, attend parties to have FUN. We want to get away from the tough school hours during the week, kick back and ENJOY life a little. Parties, for that reason, are always filled with high energy, blasting music, drunken teens, laughing, fighting etc. The point is... parties are FILLED WITH EMOTION. There are generally two types of people at these "high energy" parties:

1) The "Wallflower". (Those who grab their drinks -> sit/ stand out of the spotlight -> quietly enjoy their night).

2) The "Entertainers". (Those who are the centre of attention/life of the party -> usually create the excitement/ laughs/ entertainment of others).

Teenage women view the "entertainers" as usually the charismatic, confident, funny, outgoing personality type, whereas the "wallflower" is seen as an insecure, bored, closed personality. Fact is... teenage women (and all women for that matter) GRAVITATE towards the "entertainers" of the party. Teenage women of our era generally live pretty mediocre, boring lives. They look for their male counterpart to give them that extra push for an exciting, adventurous, unpredictable lifestyle that they just don't have.

Women are totally sexually attracted to positive energy exerted by males, SO BE A FUN GUY! Become the life of the party (I don't mean get drunk as hell and make a fool out of yourself) but confidently and casually waltz around the party with a smile on your face and socialize with EVERYONE. Make short conversation with all women there, but make it fun, exciting, and sexually stimulating (by flirting with them). I find that becoming the LIFE of the dance floor, is a GUARANTEE SUCCESS in attracting women. Women LOVE guys who dance, and if they are the centre of attention in the biggest spotlight of the party, girls will by FAR be impressed.

You see...the key to meeting teen women at these parties...is not going straight up to them and forcing out awkward conversation. The REAL KEY... is to make yourself known at the party, and others will flock to YOU (guys and girls) because were all attention seekers. It's a contagious thing... think about it. If one girl is impressed by your dancing and "not giving a shit" attitude, she will approach you. When the other girls see you talking to/ dancing with that girl... they will sub consciously label you as "desired", and THEY will approach you (girls get EXTREMELY jealous from other female competition, so use it to your advantage). Once the guys see that you're mingling on the dance floor with a group of girls who are subtly talking/ near you, THEY will want to join in on the success... and approach to start dancing near you... or just to say "what's up?"

Before you know it, you're suddenly the centre of attention of the party, and EVERYONE will glare at you in either awe or jealousy. You will seem charismatic the way people are gravitating towards you, and it is a CHAIN REACTION. How do you start the chain reaction? You do this by slowly initiating POSITIVE energy and getting on that dance floor. Your main goal is to just get that ONE girl NEAR you... or dancing WITH you. You will not believe the utter success that flows from that... it's almost magical. It literally puts a smile on my face because I've done it SO MANY times. I'm not talking out of my ass here boys... it WORKS.

Just build the confidence to become the life on the dance floor in the first place... and all else will follow. Try not to gain your confidence through alcohol consumption, but rather look within yourself, realize you only live ONCE... and hit the dance floor GUNNIN.

My most successful philosophy in attracting teen women at parties is dancing. I'm not saying I'm a good dancer... but as long as girls know I am having the time of my life... they will be impressed. If there is no dance floor... you still need to somehow become the life of the party. I truly value the power of dancing, but I do understand that there are "non dancers" out there... and many of them. So if initiating that exciting, confident "aura" on the floor just isn't your thing... you will need to stick with me here... well... at least until lesson: 21.

This and MUCH more will is discussed in a complete FREE program I have designed based upon the fundamentals of the psychology of attraction. The best thing you can do at a party to attract women... well, visit my website and find out for yourself: Attract-Teen-Women.

What's So Great About a Bob Marley Poster?

What exactly is the attraction when it comes to Bob Marley posters? They seem to be very popular amongst the college crowd for one. Walk through any college campus, and check out all the Marley t-shirts for starters. Carry it a little bit further, and start asking questions. I'll bet if you asked 100 students who Bob Marley was, the vast majority of them could tell you. A few could probably name a few of his songs, and if your really lucky a few more could sing you a few words. Your safest bet for this would be to ask the question around the music building. I'd hate to hear a Bob Marley song mangled by some engineering student that was rejected in the first round of American Idol.

Now, I don't suggest this, but if you were able to see what was hanging on the walls of many of those same students dorm walls, I bet there would be more then a few Bob Marley posters, photographs or prints. Why exactly is that? For an artist that hasn't released a single new song in over 25 years that is certainly a perplexing phenomena. Perplexing, but true. The reason for no new material, is that Bob passed away from cancer over 25 years ago. His music, artwork, and image still seem to pervade our culture. Only a few icons seem to have achieved that the way he has. A few others that come to mind would be Mariln Monroe, and John Lennon. The thing they all seem to have in common, is that there was more to them then just their art. They all had a message to was distilled in their work.

So why so many posters for Bob then? Here's some interesting stats for the Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon and Bob Marley. According to Wordtracker, there are approximately 5000 internet searches a day for the phrase John Lennon, approximately 10,000 for Marilyn Monroe, and approximately 18,000 for Bob Marley. Kinda interesting isn't it. What is it that makes Bob Marley almost twice as looked for as Marilyn Monroe, and almost fout times as looked for as John Lennon? Honestly, I don't know.

It definitely indicates an interes in Bob Marley, and all things related to Bob Marley, such as music, lyrics, artwork, videos, photographs and posters. I think a little further research is warranted here, to explain these numbers. Suffice it to say though, that Bob Marley was about more than just Reggae music. There was a tone and timbre to the man that went message deep. But, what exactly was that message. Peace, love, brotherhood, understanding, compasion, passion? Yes, actually it was all the above.

If you like to see my favorite Bob Marley posters, or simply browse through a listing of some really cool Bob Marley posters in your inbox be sure to visit http://foolishmumbles.com/DigitalCameraRecommendations/

Britney and Paris

Mother Britney Spears takes her pants off in public with Paris Hilton, while proceeding with a divorce and custody battle for her children. Certainly this was not a very smooth move on Britney's part.

Britney Spears recently dumped and proceeded to divorce her husband. Telling the world that she wants to improve her image and career, Britney's actions certainly don't affirm that.

The newly-liberated pop star enjoyed a wild 'girls night out' in Sin City with Miss Hilton this weekend; dancing, laughing and chain-smoking throughout the night.

The unlikely pair landed at club Tryst in the Wynn hotel, where Britney was spotted getting down and dirty on the dance floor to several Paris Hilton songs. In fact, things got so heated, Britney ditched her pants -- and danced around the club in a pair of fishnet stockings!

Reading some of her fans posted comments on TMZ (which I've written below) is revealing:

"Britney dumps Fed-Ex to hang out with Parisite Crotch???"

"Umm... where's her kids?"

"She needs to shape up, not a good picture for child custody battle. Although, Federjerk is worse than she is."

"She is a poor role mode, she looks gross..."

"She and Paris never got along, she was jealous of Paris. She is a drinking, cigarette smoking, weed head. She and Kevin are one in the same, take away Britney's money, and she and Kevin are EXACTLY the same - white trash, she just has money."

"Ha. I knew her cleaned up image was too good to be true. She should have stayed with K-Fed - their white trash ways suited each other. But please, doesn't she realize that she's a mother to TWO children now. She needs to grow up. Oh, and cigarettes are making her look old and tired before her time."

"If I were Britney, in the middle of a custody battle, I for one would not be clubbing every night in sin city, bad for the 'I'm a good momma' court defense, two would not be hanging out with ...Parisite, that in itself is going to kill her career!"

"She needs to be careful of what she does and who she hangs out with if she really loves her kids, and this is not looking good for her!!!"

"If you wanted to clean up your career, hanging with Parisite was not the way to do it!!!
Do you have PR people, staff that can help you and give you a honest opinion?"

"Is the partying right now worth the custody of your kids??? THINK!!!"

"If your working, that's one thing, need a night out, another, but being out almost every night since her separation, drinking, smoking, hanging out with "Parisite" & others, Is she trying to lose her children? Because she is doing a better job at that than she is at Parenting, Marriage and Career."

"Britney has MENTAL problems. Why don't people get that? She is a little immature girl in a woman's body. She is not fit to be a mother, period. Dancing in a club with no pants on? Unbelievable!"

Well, based on these responses three things are for certain. First, Britney and Paris (as well as a good number in show business) were never intended to be "role models." Secondly, immaturity clothed in an adult body is a pity when children are involved. Thirdly, those who closely follow these celebrities and devote their time to angrily discuss and write about them could be spending there time better elsewhere.

Coming of age is one thing, maturing is another. Pray for these beautiful young ladies, because once their beauty fades they will need to secure their identities internally. Most importantly remember everybody needs love. Just because you are famous does not mean you know and have unconditional love apart from your performance and appearance. Therefore pray for and be gracious to these ladies. Malice toward none and charity for all.
