Sixes & Sevens

Customer Review: What a surprise!
I live in Austin where Speer plays most often. My wife works with his bass player (he's part time). When he gave her Speer's CD, she gave it to me. I have to admit I let it sit around for a while because I thought it would turn out to be some lame high school band whose dad had enough money to give them to do a CD. Man, was I wrong. This CD is great! If you like the bands the other reviewer mentioned you *will* like this. Since piano dominates most of the songs, I have to say they also remind me of Ben Folds Five. I especially like "Soak The Radio." Enjoy!
Customer Review: This is what I have been waiting for!!!!
This CD rocks. The vocalist James Speer has amazing range and melodies. He is a cross between Jeff Buckley and Peter Gabriel. The music itself is captivating! There are great dynamics from beggining to end. It's almost like a soundtrack. The hits are all over this CD, but the ones that really stand out are 'Blue Bowl', 'View', and 'Already gone'. The rest of the tracks are just as powerful and I keep finding a new favorite every time I listen to the CD. I don't know where this guy came from but I hope to see more material. I went by his website, WWW.SPEERMUSIC.COM, and found that he is only playing in Austin, Tx. I hope that he will go on tour soon. I highly recommend this album if you like the folling artists: COLDPLAY, DAVE MATTHEWS, COUNTING CROWS, PETER GABRIEL, DAVID GRAY, JEFF BUCKLEY, STING

There are so many different perks to living in New York City : the culture, the restaurants, the education and of course, the music. Music is everywhere, and not just one type, but all genres. No matter what type of music you like, you can find it in the city and in a number of different settings.

If you are looking to spend a night on the town and hear some great music, that is not a problem in New York. There are plenty of bars, clubs, and lounges throughout the city that feature live musicians. Try going downtown to the Knitting Factory where you'll find indie-rock bands, jazz groups, and plenty of local bands on the rise. For a different type of music, check out the BB King Blues Club in Times Square. Of course, those are just two examples. There are music bars all over the Big Apple.

There are always big name concerts in NYC, and there are plenty of venues to host them. Concerts are always held in venues such as Madison Square Garden, Lincoln Center, and Radio City Music Hall. Each year these halls, as well as many others, host a number of different concerts. Check out their schedules to see if anything interests you.

Less-formal concerts can also be found all over. On a nice day, take a walk through Central Park or Washington Square Park, and you are bound to find someone singing or playing an instrument. You can even find music when you are riding the subway. Musicians are always set up in the subway stations. Sometimes these little concerts are the best ones.

As much as New York is a great place to enjoy music, it is also a great place to learn music. There are a number of music schools in NYC, including some of the most prestigious in the world. With all the great schools and the endless opportunities, music students should want to be nowhere else.

For a less formal music education, spend a day at one of the Big Apple's many museums that feature musical displays. There is the Museum of Television and Radio and the Dia Center for the Arts to name a few.

A completely different way to celebrate music in NYC is to visit the John Lennon Memorial in Central Park. This memorial, known as Strawberry Fields, is 2.5 acres landscaped in memory of John Lennon. The memorial is a mosaic with the word, "Imagine" in the middle and a peace sign made of flowers. It is located on Central Park West at West 72nd Street directly across from where John Lennon lived and was murdered.

No matter what type of music you chose to listen to, you can find it in New York City. No matter how you chose to enjoy your music, you can find it in New York City. Manhattan is full of music, and that is just one of the many benefits to being here.

So youve invested in a state-of-the-art guitar what next? Chances are youll need an amplifier. Guitar amplifiers are an essential part of your music gear; in fact, most musicians agree that a good guitar is no use without a good amp.

When shopping for an amp, you usually have four options: tube, solid state, digital, and hybrid. While the last two are certainly more high-tech, newer isnt always better when it comes to amps. Each type has its own advantages, and it all comes down to your budget and personal preference.

Tube guitar amplifier

The first amps to become available were tube amps. Many experts find them their warm, full tone more natural, and digital amps have tried and failed to duplicate it. Another reason theyre still around is power-saving: they sound much louder than solid-state and digital amps at the same wattage. The only drawback is that the glass tubes break easily, so youll have to be careful moving them around.

Solid state guitar amplifiers

In solid-state amps, the tubes are replaced by transistors. While this makes them sturdier, it tends to make them sound harsh or distorted at high frequency. However, these amps will stand up to heavy use better than tube amps.

Digital guitar amplifier

Digital amps are programmed to imitate a wide range of amp sounds, including distortions, riffs, and the classic tube amp sound. Cheaper digital amps sound synthetic, but with high-end ones you can hardly tell the difference. Get a digital amp if you like being creative and trying out different styles.

Hybrid guitar amplifiers

These amps combine tube and solid-state technology into a single machine. The sound quality isnt as great as the original tube amps, but they will do if you want tube-quality sound without spending on a high-end digital amp.

More guitar amplifier information is available in Picky Guide which contains thousands of quality product information for picky consumers.

Music Maestro 6370 POP Hits of Today Vol. 24 Karaoke CDG

This listing is for a brand new Music Maestro #6370 POP CD&G CD from the DISCONTINUED MUSIC MAESTRO 6000 collection. This great quality CD comes sealed in a heavy plastic jewel case, plays the music without the lead vocals and displays the lyrics on a Karaoke CD&G player. These songs are not preformed by the original artists but are very good re-creations. I've been told that Music Maestro has gone out of business so this CD will most likely become rather hard to find in the near future.

The songs included are as follows:

Pop Hits Of Today - Vol.24 - MM - 6370

1. Complicated - Avril Lavigne

2. A Little Less Conversation - Elvis Vs. JXL

3. Boys - Britney Spears

4. The Rising - Bruce Springsteen

5. Hot In Here - Nelly

6. In My Place - Coldplay

7. Barenaked - Jennifer Love Hewitt

8. Goodbye To You - Michelle Branch

9. Flake - Jack Johnson

10. Love At First Sight - Kylie Minogue

11. Out Of My Heart - BBMak

12. Silver Lining - Bonnie Raitt

13. On A High - Duncan Shiek

14. Just Like A Pill - Pink

15. Big Machine - Goo Goo Dolls

Live 2003

Many figure skating moves and techniques are based on ballet. Skaters who have a background in ballet should be able to transfer the positions and principles from ballet to skating. It is precisely this closeness to dance, and especially to ballet, that sets ice skating apart from any other sport. Although ballet and skating are similar, you have to think of them as two different worlds. There are many moves in skating that are similar to ballet, but you will have to break some ballet rules to get it right in skating.

The skater needs a strong core body to connect the upper and lower body for controlled powerful movements. He must be able to keep his shoulders over his hips throughout jumps, spins, footwork and edges. He must also be able to check his shoulders against his hips. Thus it is to the skater's benefit to become aware of the feeling of twisting in the middle of the torso, and also the feeling of staying square.

Figure skating and ballet require balance, strength in the legs, and ankle strength. They both use the same muscles, so ballet really helps figure skaters. Flexibility, balance, body alignment/posture, extension, and strength are just another reason to incorporate ballet to your figure skating. Many of the poses in skating are found in ballet, for instance arabesque, leaps, Rond de Jambe, Pli, etc. Ballet teaches the skater how to move the pelvis without losing balance or disconnecting the center in footwork sequences, including pirouette turns, jumps and leaps across the floor.

The entire foundation of ballet is poise and posture gained through core strength, making it the best way to learn how to present oneself and become graceful and elegant on the ice. Ballet helps with beauty and grace. Ballet dancers have a natural elegance in the way they carry themselves. The way their legs, back, arms, hands, feet, shoulders, and neck are aligned, always seems to have that flair grace. They have great posture.

Figure skating is ballet on ice. It can be one of the off ice training you implement to your skating for form and balance. Ballet uses body, mind and expression and while on the ice you have to express yourself as well. With ballet, you have a broader sense of how to perform, and to interpret and express your music as you tell your story or convey your emotion through the connecting steps of the program. This is what make the difference between a program that is all jumps with a lot of crossovers or stroking between the jumps, and a program that is interesting, artistic and pleasant to watch. Just as a dancer sweeps you away with her grace and flow and hides her/his sweat with a flourish, a skater will prepare you for a delicate show of artistry, acrobatic leaps and gentle arabesques.

The following is a brief summary of common terms and positions with which skaters should be familiar.

Rond de Jambe - A rotary movement of the leg.
It can be done in a number of ways, such as on the
floor with knee straight, or in air with a circular
rotation of the knee from bent to straight.

Pli - A bending of the knees with hips, legs, and
feet turned outward.

Arabesque - A position in which the dancer
stands on one leg with the other leg extended in a
straight line to the rear. The position of the arms
and the height of the raised leg may vary.
There are certain set positions in ballet for the
arms and particularly for the feet which give the
ballet dancer a particularly pleasing aspect as well
as providing a starting point for particular moves
and interchanges.
Skaters who have a background in ballet
should be able to transfer the positions and
principles from ballet to skating.

Foot Positions
There are five basic ballet foot positions that
are common to all teaching methods.
The feet point either in opposing directions either
in a straight line, or offset with one foot in front of
the other.

Viva La Vida

Extremely limited special edition of their 2008 album packaged in a gatefold wallet sleeve. Viva La Vida is the Britpop act's fourth studio release. The album comprises 10 brand new tracks, recorded in London, Barcelona and New York with producers Brian Eno and Markus Dravs. Viva La Vida follows the hugely successful album X & Y, which has sold 10 million copies since its release in 2005. EMI. 2008.
Customer Review: Why did they paint on the Delacroix?
As with most all uber-hyped pop albums, this one doesn't go deep and raw enough to be fantastic (if it did, it would make too many enemies). However as chart toppers go, this one is straight from the heart, and will remain on my playlist for a long time. Chris Martin singing 'you didn't get to heaven, but you made it close/you didn't get to heaven, but you aaa.... (almost?)' is hard to forget. all songs have a crunchy revolutionary anthem feel that fits Martin like an old leather coat. One that i'll be wearing for a while.
Customer Review: If it wasn't so overhyped, I might be less critical...
Coldplay is good. They're better than most. Most rap, most country, most rock and DEFINITELY most pop. But Viva la Vida is extremely overexposed, and Coldplay have long been riding a tidal wave of mediocrity over the heads of the consumers. Regarding their most recent release, the lyrics are interesting, the melodies pretty, the songs epic in scope, but rather pedestrian when all the synthesizers are stripped away. Chris Martin has a nice voice, but not an inspiring one. But, then again, the same might be said about U2, and look what they've accomplished. At least Coldplay aren't a ripoff (well, yes, they do bear more than a passing nod to U2, but I mean ripoff in the "you've been robbed" kind of way)...at worst you might feel like you spent too much on the CD - you won't be wondering why you bought it in the first place. I probably wouldn't be so critical had I not been expecting considerably more from their new CD. The song "Viva la Vida" was stuck in my head by about the fifth time I saw the stupid iTunes commercial. It's arranged in a way to make it a depaparture from typical pop/rock drivel, and I like its bass pulse: solid without being bombastic. Nice layering of sounds, but it sounds canned overall. There are a couple of tunes that sound like they borrowed a page from Sgt. Pepper (but who HASN'T borrowed a page from Sgt. Pepper?), and a few that suggest to me a hasty trip from concept to final mix. HOWEVER, if you think I'm being overly critical, you should hear my rants about 99.9999999% of the rest of the music that I have been subjected to and tortured with over the years. Overall, I'm pleased by Coldplay's latest. I give it 7 points for every single track being worthy of repeated listens, 1 point for the single "Viva la Vida" having the incredible capacity to get stuck in your head, minus 2 points for the CD as a whole not living up to the hype, but I'm giving those 2 points back as extra credit for still being better than most of what else the recording industry attempts to shove down our throats. 80%. That's a solid B. Good effort.

Beware of Virus Threats

iTunes and Amazon are the preferred source for downloading television episodes, and many TV buffs enjoy doing this. There are other places like torrent networks that offer download services, but not without virus threats, and sometimes you do not get what you want in terms of quality. The download may also be incomplete.

Go for Quality

If you ask my opinion, then I don't approve any of these methods to download. The actual cost of downloading television shows may be more, and you may want to check other services which offer more so you end up paying less. It all depends on the television buff who really loves to watch the TV episodes, who may end up spending huge amounts of money on these shows.

Almost Free Downloads

There are many services available that allow you to download as many movies, television shows, and music videos as you want by paying a membership fee every year. This way you need not pay for every episode, and you can download all the episodes for a one time reasonable fee. Isn't this more economical?

Save Your Money

Some sites even offer life subscriptions. Pay a one time fee and download for a lifetime! All the TV shows, music videos, and even movies you wanted to own could be yours. Imagine the amount of money you would be saving!

Choose What Works Best For You

In my opinion there are several websites that offer these services and I have even checked their support and services. I can say that the options are plenty and all you need to do is drop in and choose what works best for you.

Jo Kino Liu is a total fanatic for downloading TV series and watching them at home but he doesn't appreciate to pay much for that. Drop by his site and see how he can legally download movies with no spyware or viruses almost for free, anytime he wants:

The wedding couple leading the first dance can be one of the most romantic highlights of the big day. More and more couples are choosing to have professional dance lessons so that they look their very best when the time comes. This article provides tips on getting it right.

Choosing the music for your 'First Dance' may turn out to be one of the most difficult things you have to decide. Not only do you have to agree on the music that you both like, there are many other things that you have to take into consideration as well. You would be better served to choose five or six different songs to start with and take them along to your dance teacher on CD so that you can discuss the merits of each song individually.

A few things to think about when deciding:

Remember the Wedding Day is a long day for you, your family and the guests, and everyone will want it to go smoothly.
The less you have to think about on the day the better it will be, so plan well in advance. Don't leave it to the last thing on your list!

Generally the First Dance is no more than 3 minutes long. You will be the centre of attention but nobody will want to watch and dance that goes on for 5 or 6 minutes, especially the children! Your guests by this time are ready to get the party going! So keep it short and sweet.

Be prepared that your absolute favorite song may turn out to be a non-starter because it is too fast or slow, long or short. Put a shortlist together on a CD and take it to your chosen dance teacher. A good teacher will help you choose objectively and ask questions about what you are wearing (dress and shoes), how big your dance floor is, the position of tables, are you having a band play your music or using CD etc).

Listen carefully to the song lyrics. Once you take this into consideration you may find that your original song list will shrink straight away! However, even though you may discount most of the songs on he original list do not discard them until you have confirmed what you are going to use.

Think about the type of dance you want to do. If you are into "rock and roll" or "Ballroom and Latin" and your outfit allows it then go for it! Just remember leave yourselves plenty of time to practice. Before you know it the family will be in town waiting to see you off and ready for a party!

Live Music or CD? - Most bands will be able to learn your song for you, but bear in mind that using pre-recorded music allows you to edit the song to match your routine. You will also have been practicing to the pre-recorded music and will need to ensure that the band play the song in the same tempo. You also run the risk of the band being unfamiliar with the song, and they may have limited time to rehearse.

The best solution is to get your first dance song on CD and have either the DJ or band play the song through their equipment. This is a very popular choice as it's the least hassle and allows the band to create an impact when they kick off immediately after you have finished.

So there it is. Have fun with it, after all it is your day, but make sure you plan well in advance - there is more to it than you think! Don't leave it till the last minute it will just be disastrous!

" Coldplay " : It's Easy To Play

Many movies have been made about Nashville. Enough books about Music City have been written to fill a bookcase. And, of course, scores of songs are dedicated to the city of music. But, while music is the lifeblood of Nashville, visitors will also find here a city of culture and history, of haute cuisine, of pro sports, outstanding academics, natural beauty and pure Southern charm.

Nashville is a place where the past and the future peacefully coexist and build, one on the other, to create a destination that appeals to the interests of every visitor. This city is alive. You can feel its pulse when you walk down its sidewalks. And, fortunately, you can also hear it almost anywhere you go.

How Nashville became Music City:

From its very beginnings, Nashville grew from a foundation built on music. Music has always been the common thread connecting the life and soul of the city and its people. And visitors have always ventured here to experience the music that weaves such a fundamental pattern in its cultural, business and social fabric.

Nashville's earliest settlers celebrated in the late 1700s with fiddle tunes and buck dancing after safely disembarking on the shores of the Cumberland River, a spot now commemorated on First Avenue North with a replica of the original Fort Nashborough. Nashville's first "celebrity," the noted frontiersman and Congressman Davy Crockett was known far and wide for his colorful stories and fiddle playing.

As the 1800s unfolded, Nashville grew to become a national center for music publishing. The first around-the-world tour by a musical act was by the Fisk Jubilee Singers from Nashville's Fisk University. Their efforts helped fund the school's mission of educating freed slaves after the Civil War - and also put Nashville on the map as a global music center.

In 1897, a group of Confederate veterans chose Nashville as the site of a massive reunion. The event was held at the former tabernacle that would later become known as the Ryman Auditorium. So many former Confederate soldiers poured into town that a new balcony was built inside the tabernacle to accommodate their great numbers. It was dubbed "The Confederate Gallery," a designation still visible today as the Ryman continues to host an array of musical events.

Before even the Ryman became known as the downtown home of the Grand Ole Opry, it already enjoyed a national reputation. Enrico Caruso, John Phillip Sousa and the Vienna Orchestra gave roof-raising performances there that earned the Ryman the nickname "Carnegie Hall of the South." The Ryman's unrivaled acoustic qualities continue today - it has received Pollstar magazine's prestigious "Theater of the Year" award for two years in a row as the best auditorium in the nation to experience live music.

In 1925, the establishment of radio station WSM and its launch of the broadcast that would be called the Grand Ole Opry further secured Nashville's reputation as a musical center and sparked its durable nickname of Music City. The Opry, still staged live every week, is America's longest-running radio show, in continuous production for 80 years. It ignited the careers of hundreds of country stars and lit the fuse for Nashville to explode into a geographic center for touring and recording. The modern-day empire of Music Row, a collection of recording studios, record labels, entertainment offices and other music-associated businesses, populates the area around 16th and 17th Avenues South.

In recent years, cable television broadcast Music City's stars and music to the world. The Nashville Network, CMT and GAC took country music to a new level of acclaim and recognition. The gospel music series hosted by Nashville's Bobby Jones on Black Entertainment Television is now cable's longest-running program.

Nashville has also become a hub for pop, rock, bluegrass, jazz, classical, contemporary Christian, blues and soul music. Artists like Matchbox Twenty, India.Arie, Bon Jovi and Jewel, among many others, have come to Music City to write and record, and names like Michael McDonald and Donna Summer have chosen to call Nashville home.

The newly constructed Schermerhorn Symphony Center, home to the renowned, Grammy -winning Nashville Symphony, anchors the downtown end of the recently designated Music Mile, a symbolic stretch of roadway connecting the $120 million Symphony Center with the music district of Music Row, the vibrant new entertainment venues on Demonbruen Street, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Music City Walk of Fame and Museum and the Nashville Arena. The Music Mile perfectly illustrates how the music of Music City is indeed a common thread throughout the business, cultural and entertainment sectors of Nashville.

Nashville's connection to music is unequaled, and its reputation as Music City has been consistently proven for over 200 years. Welcome to the most musical city in the world. Music City-the only Music City!

Intros, Endings and Turnarounds for Keyboard: Essential Phrases for Swing, Latin, Jazz Waltz, and Blues Styles

Learn the intros, endings and turnarounds that all of the pros know and use! This new keyboard instruction book by John Valerio covers swing styles, ballads, Latin tunes, jazz waltzes, blues, major and minor keys, vamps and pedal tones, and more.
Customer Review: This book is fun ...
The book has well written, very musical phrases. The author suggests usage with several standards that should be in everyone's play book and it's fun to work them in with tunes you already know - in the proper keys. Take them apart, and there is something to learn in most of them. Great for browsing. The printing is good and the binding isn't troublesome on the rack. Nice experience. I would have rated it a five, but some of the pages have a tendency to work loose.
Customer Review: I love this book
I try to spend a half hour with it every night. This book will appeal to a wide range of interests. Whether you are a composer interested in theory, or a keyboardist enhancing your chops, there is something here for you. Most examples are four-measures long, but rich in musicality (kind of like what the Bach chorales are for those studying classical music.) The examples progress from simple chord progressions to more complex, and each is one is clearly explained. Nice melodies too! It is apparent that the author has spent a lot of time with each of the sub-genres (swing, ballads, blues, Latin, etc.) and has distilled his knowledge into a neat recipe book that will serve as a launching point for those wishing to further their expertise.

Sleepwalking Ep

Piano arranging is the process by which you take a written piece of music and rework it with chords, adding new bass accompaniment, fills, or even slightly altering the song's structure. And while it's a process that takes years to truly master, anyone with a basic education in piano and a working knowledge of a few key techniques can create an inventive, satisfying arrangement. It all boils down to one thing: chord recognition. And anyone who plays a little piano can learn piano chords to add excitement to their piano playing.

Most people learn to play the piano by playing just the written music. Playing by written music is exactly what the phrase says it is -- playing the exact notation on a piece of sheet music. But playing by chord symbol is a little different. Instead of following the harmony note by note, you follow the chord symbols (i.e. C7 or F) written above the harmonies, filling in the gaps with...well, whatever you want as long as it sticks to those chords. Of course, you'll still read the melody (it is, after all, often what makes the song recognizable) but even that is completely open to interpretation. Playing by chord symbol allows you a freedom that playing by written music simply doesn't. The freedom to create. The freedom to invent. The freedom to arrange chord patterns in the way you want.

Does that mean playing by written music is less important than playing by chord symbol? Absolutely not! The ability to play by written music is an extremely valuable skill, one that even some of the most famous musicians don't possess. And while you don't necessarily need to know the skill backwards and forwards to create great arrangements, it's a tremendous help.

Think about it this way. Some of the most revered modern artists create paintings that look very simple, very rudimentary. But the majority of those artists went to art school for years before they began creating that sort of work. They learned the fundamentals of drawing and painting, of color composition and light; they learned to draw or paint something exactly as it actually looks. Only after they mastered those skills did they move on to create the simple, yet often innovative, work that hangs in galleries and museums -- work that still abides by several basic principles. They learned the craft before bringing their imagination into it; after all, you have to understand the rules in order to break them.

So after you have learned the basics of reading piano sheet music, consider learning chords and chord symbols (such as G7, Fm, etc.) and chord progressions. There are many places online where you can learn all about chords just type in chords or chord piano into your search browser, and you will find several to choose from. When you can both read the written sheet music and then add chords and chord progressions to your piano playing, you have the very best of all musical worlds.

Internet radio is booming, providing a way for listeners to enjoy just about any genre of music that strikes their fancy or matches their personal tastes. Internet radio would seem to be especially well suited for the high-tech beats associated with today's club and rave scenes.

Indeed, club (or dance) audio streams can be found in abundance on the Web. One of the best sites for sampling and enjoying this "trance-out" music in all its manifestations is Ombilikal.org, home of Ombilikal Radio. Ombilikal Radio broadcasts a steady stream of drum 'n' bass, jungle, electro (or electronica), breakbeat, hip hop, dub, ragga, roots, nujazz and downtempo music.

I'm familiar with some of these genres and subgenres, but others leave me scratching my head. As I definitely need to bring myself up to speed on what's trendy in the clubs these days, I can't think of a better way to do that than listening to Ombilikal.

The Ombilikal Web site has an appropriate industrial look to it. It also offers more than just streaming radio. There are forum areas, news and review sections, an events calendar and more--all of it oriented to club-type music.

One drawback to the Ombilikal Web site--at least for us English speakers--is the fact that its native language is French. Its creators have thoughtfully provided instant-translation buttons so non-French speakers can re-render its pages in English, Spanish, German or Italian. The results, though, are pretty rough. For example, here is the "English" version of an announcement of an upcoming event:

Indeed, has the invitation of the Festival Osheaga, Montreal Eclectique Groove takes possession of a scene external in full heart of the Park Jean Drapeau. Beginning of the afternoon until the tombee of the night, within a framework favourable with the relaxation - between lakes and success of greenery - this go from now on impossible to circumvent invites each one has a weekend rich in musical discoveries.

Oh, well, the main draw of Ombilikal is the audio stream, and for that you don't really need a translation--especially when you can sit or lie back and just let yourself trance out to the insistent electronic beat.

Stefan Smith is a radio and music junkie who writes on these and other subjects for the Solid Gold Info Writers Consortium. Recently, he has written an extensive review of new software that anyone can use to capture music audio streams from Internet radio broadcasts and break them up into individual mp3 song files--a legal way to download virtually free music. The Future is Unwritten-DVD Documentary

Julien Temple, one of the early documentarians of the London punk scene and director of the 2000 Sex Pistols film The Filth and the Fury, turns his attention now to that other seminal British band: The Clash--or more accurately, to the band's co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead singer, Joe Strummer. The Future is Unwritten is more than just a biography of Strummer; it is a tribute and exploration of a musician, artist and devoted humanist. Though Temple respects and admires Strummer (his influence is exalted by close friends, peers and fans like Bono and John Cusack), he doesn't romanticize this larger-than-life personality and presents Strummer honestly and not always in flattering light, though the director's fondness for his subject is constant. Most movingly, Strummer himself provides the narration via reassembled excerpts from a variety of interviews and the BBC radio show he hosted during the nineties. In the wrong hands, this could be contrived, but in this masterful documentary it serves as a testament to not just Joe Strummer the myth, but Joe Strummer the man, telling us his story in vivid detail. The Future is Unwritten is a moving and personal portrait of a musician who helped shaped not just punk, but modern music as a whole. --Kira Canny
Customer Review: Amazing movie about a rock legend
There have been several movies made about Joe Strummer but Julien Temple's is unique in its personal touch. Temple was a friend of Strummer's for many years and so had insight into the man behind the music that many people did not have. The movie consists of Joe's life story as told by many friends, acquaintances, fellow artists and others who knew him or were influenced by him over the years. Amazing music, very well put-together, and just a great story about a man who was a huge influence on rock & roll and politics during his time on this earth. Joe was taken from the world too early when he died unexpectedly in December 2002 and after watching this movie one can only wonder what more he would have accomplished. The opening scene of Joe singing "White Riot" a capella in the studio is complemented by the closing scene of Joe and Mick Jones reuniting on stage 20+ years later to perform the same song...even though they were old (and Mick a little bald!) they still ROCKED. If you like the Clash, you must see this movie!!

Spanish is spoken in many countries throughout Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, as well as in the United States. Spanish people just love it when tourists and travelers speak Spanish to them. Spanish is the mother tongue or second language for over 500 million people around the world.

Learning a new language can open up your life to an exciting new culture, in a fantastic new country. There are many reasons to take the Rocket Spanish course.

Spanish language software programs like The Rocket Spanish Course are a great way to learn the language because you can learn at your own pace and in the privacy of your own home. Being able to learn at your own pace is a major plus because the course teaches you so quickly you find it hard to actually stop the lessons for a break. In fact, the course is so successful at speed teaching that it comes with a full 8 week money back guarantee.

Realistically, if you diligently apply yourself to learn the entire Rocket Spanish course, and if you then go out and find people to practice conversation with, this course could have you speaking pretty fluent Spanish in much less than a year's time. Maybe six months for the average learner, longer for some.

The Rocket Spanish Course is now the #1 selling Spanish learning system in the world today.

Because the course gives you step-by-step guidance of how exactly to learn Spanish in the quickest time, you can be sure that you will learn what you want when you want. It also includes interactive games to make things more fun and easy to follow.

Learning the basic lingo might be simple. Learning the vocabulary and retaining it is one of the difficult parts of learning a language, but by listening to it in the car as you drive, playing the games and things, it really helps improve your Spanish skills, especially in the area of grammar.

I have to say that the name is appropriate, because the course literally propels you at rocket speeds towards becoming a functional speaker of Spanish.

By immersing yourself in the course, you will no doubt learn about the language in record time. I would recommend the Rocket Spanish course to anyone looking to learn Spanish without paying the high cost most classes can cost.

The Rocket Spanish course looks the way to go.

Customer Review: AGAIN ... WHY???????????????
This is exactly the thing that begs the question WHY???????????? its no different from the other karaoke tribute albums to coldplay, the worst being "metal tribute to coldplay". Customer Review: Very happy
My mother is actually a big fan of this show and so i bought her the dvds. She loves them and watches em each night before she goes to bed. Good purchase and shipped quickly as well.
Customer Review: Easily just as good as the first season.
This season has so many great episodes with that classic Home Movies style of humor, that anyone who loved the first season would have no reason not to love this one too. Yes, the animation doesn't "squiggle" anymore but this shouldn't concern anyone thinking about purchasing as it doesn't detract from the show at all.

Subscription-based satellite radio service is at the forefront of the US music market. Long gone are the days when people when the only option was in choosing from just one or two measly stations that had poor reception and overbearing, irritating disk jockeys and commercials!

However, local radio stations generally don't fear the satellite radio revolution, predicting their survival in much the same way basic television has survived, despite the emergence of cable in the 90s. There's a lot to love about satellite radio and it's no surprise that Sirius Radio is ranked no. 1 Fastest Growing Company for 2007 (by Deloitte Technology).

First of all, satellite radio provide you with a high-quality digital signal that can transcend geographic borders by beaming down from three geosynchronous communications satellites orbiting around the Earth. Many channels feature CD-quality sound, static-free.

Secondly, subscribers have the choice of over 130 different satellite radio channels, ranging from various rock sub-genres to several news radio sources. This is great news for people who regularly listen to alternative sub-genres like Punk Rock, Death Metal, Christian Rock or Electronica! Satellite radio blends the best of both worlds - the specific ambiance of a CD, with the consumer's need for exposure to new music in fact it seems that new stations are popping up on a weekly basis.

Electronic Music Fans will prefer the Sirius radio service if they'd like a Breakbeat/Old SKool station, in addition to the usual Trance/Progressive stations that both satellite radio services provide. XM Radio has exclusive rights to acclaimed BPM, but Sirius has a special Dance Hits station.

The third benefit - that's worth its weight in gold - is that there are NO commercials! It may be hard to believe that 100% commercial-free radio exists, but for just $13/month, you can evade the constant interruptions that plague your morning and late afternoon commutes. Satellite radio is the obvious choice for truckers, delivery drivers and long road trips.

However, the fact that satellite radio costs anything is still a deterrent to many frugal individuals. Therefore, there will always be a market for regular local broadcast stations. At this point, it can be a hassle to go to the electronics shop and get satellite radio receivers for home use or for your car, having said that there is a huge range of satellite receivers and radios for the home and car on many internet sites.

In the future, satellite radio will become the standard and most new cars will already have it installed. Maybe then the real revolution will begin.

Customer Review: good but some disappointment
dance steps are fine and not too difficult but steps are done to a percussion beat rather than to tunes and real latin music. I really prefer music and so this doesn't feel like dancing, just exercising, and therefore isn't as much fun.
Customer Review: Not what I expected !!
I am a fan of salsa music and i thought that this dvd would be fun to try and put in a part of my work outs. The instructor was just wayyyy too much. too loud , too hyper. she came off very corny at times. lol. the video is just dumb. i dont know ,i just found her annoying. The music was good and all but i just cant take her. I dont do this video often. Once in a blue. It really wasnt as good as thought it was gonna be. i have other crunch video but come on now. they need better instructors.

The Grammy Awards have been an American music institution for nearly half a century. But what is a "Grammy" anyway?

"Grammy" is short for "Gramophone" and the actual Grammy Awards given out each year are modeled after this prototypical record player.

Notice I didn't call it a prototypical "phonograph." The phonograph and the gramophone, while similar, were different designs. Adding to the confusion, in between the two was a device called the "graphophone."

Thomas A. Edison, the famous American inventor, invented the phonograph (which from the Greek literally means "sound writer") in 1877. But his invention didn't play "records" as most of us think of them. Edison's device played cylinders.

(The graphophone also used cylinders but they were engraved rather than embossed, as specified by Edison's patent.)

It was Emile Berliner's Gramophone, patented ten years later, that played discs, or "records" as they came to be known, and still are to this day, spawning the modern music recording industry.

Perhaps it is for this reason that the founders of the most prestigious American music award chose to name their ultimate prize, the "Grammy."

(I am speculating that the "Phony" would not have been a good choice, except in the case of Milli Vanilli*, and that the "Graphy" may be reserved for National Geographic nature recordings!)

The Grammy Awards are given by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc. which was formed in 1957.

"In the beginning The Recording Academy owed its survival to members who donated long hours to the emerging professional association. A labor of love, the young Academy may not have prevailed had it not been for the dedication of its charter members...The GRAMMYs are the only peer-presented award to honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position." Grammy.com

The first Grammy Awards were held in 1959 in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton. The big winners that year were Domenico Modugno for "Nel Blue Dipinto di Blu (Volare)" which took home Record of the Year and Song of the Year and Henry Mancini for The Music from Peter Gunn which won Album of the Year.

Ella Fitzgerald won for Best Jazz Performance, Individual and The Kingston Trio won for "Tom Dooley" in the Best Country & Western Performance category. (Hmmmm...we thought they were Folk. Oh well, guess they added a category here and there...uh yuh, about a hundred.)

The 49th Grammy Awards will be held on February 11th, 2007 and will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS.

*"Milli Vanilli was a pop and dance music ensemble formed by Frank Farian in Germany in 1988 and fronted by Fab Morvan (b. May 14, 1966) and Rob Pilatus (June 8, 1965 April 2, 1998). The group's debut album achieved high sales internationally and garnered them a Grammy award for Best New Artist in 1990. However, their success turned to infamy when the award was revoked after it was revealed that the purported singers did not actually sing on the record." Wikipedia

Customer Review: Great Sound
Ok, this album is not for everyone, it is only for those who truly appreciate music and know how to reconize truly good sounding music. It isn't exactly what I would cruise down the road with the windows down and turned up loud - but it is superb for relaxing at home, chilling, working and not wanting some loud screaming of lyrics or talking in general to interrupt your workflow (if you are like me and don't like dead silence when working, this is PERFECT!) As a matter-in-fact I have it playing right now as I type this.....give it a shot, but only if you are a true music lover!
Customer Review: Good background music
This is a good CD for background music for just hanging around or having a party of any sort.

A psychoactive is defined as that which has a profound or significant affect on the mental processes. Although typically used in the context of drugs and substances, this concept is often extended to anything evoking a seemingly 'mystical experience.' What people describe as mystical experiences are indistinguishable, neurologically and empirically, from deep and poignant religious experiences. Moments of oneness and insight are typical in both cases. In "The Varieties of Religious Experience (1902)," William James describes mystical experiences as ineffable, noetic, passive (rather, a sense of loss of control), and fleeting. From the remote mystics of Sufism and Kabbalah, to modern day 'urban shamans,' psychonauts have sought methods other than imbibement to investigate the cosmos within. Through meditation, breath control, lucid dreaming, sensory deprivation, and a host of other methods, music has stood among cultures in this service probably since early man first danced around campfires.

Ethnomusicolgist Gilbert Rouget explores the connection between music and trance throughout history. Perhaps music is more than simply a mortal construct, rather having cosmic significance. Playing music (and truly appreciating music) forces an individual to focus on the present moment, which in turn is the cornerstone of meaningful experience. This emphasis on the present moment is the consummation of all other psychonautical resources (mediation, entheogens, etc.). Subscribers of the shamanic and mystical often view the passage of time as an illusion of the human mind, and regard a 'perpetual now' as true reality. Interestingly this is where science begins to align with the esoteric.

Quantum Mechanics argues that particles move backwards as well as forwards in time and appear in all possible places at once. String theory proposes that the physical world is composed of little, tiny strings of vibrating energy (It seems appropriate to allude to chordophones). Terrence McKenna, recounting a DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) induced experience, asserts that the constant dance of 'machine elves,' (entities occupying a parallel world) creates reality as we perceive it. Are the rhythms of music akin to the language of reality? Is music a method of staying in contact with the underlying 'Logos,' being the true virtue in which all things exist? Whether it be Spring's hymn of birds and bees or the elegant, geometrical dance of our physical world, music plays the universal tongue in a reality seemingly ripe with babbling discord.

Customer Review: Gaby Spanic Rocks!
When I seen this novela I was so glued to the TV I couldn't wait to see it everyday and sat-sun were the worse! I am so very happy they release such a classic on DVD. Granted, it may be edited and short but I think the reason why they did that was because they figured people who are buying it already know what happens. In my case, I wouldn't need the complete novela because I already saw it and I just wouldn't have the time. So this being edited has it's advantages for those who already saw it and loved it. After this novela, Gaby Spanic became one of my favorite spanish actresses! She did such a wonderful job and how brutal she was portraying the mean sister! I highly suggest you invest in this novela!
Customer Review: A Fantastic Story!!

Complices

Luis Miguel returns in 2008 hotter than ever with his long awaited studio album, Complices. This sensational worldwide music artist has released 23 albums and sold over 52 million albums in his career. Internationaly known for his romantic ballads, crooning vocals, and chart topping hits, Luis Miguel has sold out shows around the world. Manuel Alejandro has joined in the production of Complices bringing even more star power to this this album.
Customer Review: A good album destroyed by three songs
The album Should have not included the three songs mentioned in the previous review. These songs cut the flow of the mood, they are faster and over produced. I can't believe Luis Miguel is still singing those poppy cheesy styled songs he used to sing in the eighties. It is a shame to ruin such a great line up of songs with three songs that should have been sung by Tom Jones. I believe an album that consists mostly of ballads should include mid tempo, sexy, groovy songs to break the monotony, not cheesy poppy disco songs with choruses that will make your woman jump out of your bed and attach herself to the ceiling like a freaked-out tarantula. Luis Miguel should sing ballads,R&B,soul,Jazz, even sexy chilled-out house, but leave those songs for Tom Jones, he is the king of that style.
Customer Review: Now the marvel of Complices.
This disk is for the sensitive people and the people that understand music. It's not a contemporary radioplay. Luis Miguel interprets beatifully every song. Passion and provocative poetry are in each song of the disc. Luis Miguel and Manuel Alejandro created a great joy for those who know about music.

But Im not in it for the money you say.

Me neither.

I LOVE music and I LOVE to teach music. I feel sorry for people that go into a field just to make money.

They are missing it.

Youve got to love what you do to do it well.

So with me, teaching music is a get to not a got to.

But if you love people and you love music, whats the harm in maximizing your income? Its not the raw pursuit of money its simply multiplying yourself so that your skill can benefit more people, and in so doing, benefit yourself as well.

Why beginners?

Because for every advanced music student, there are 100 beginners. Its just a matter of numbers. If you want to teach more advanced students (as I do) thats fine it all adds up. But beginners are the low fruit you can reach them easily and there is no limit to their numbers.

Every year millions more kids get to the age where their parents start thinking about getting music lessons for them, so your prospect list is constantly getting bigger every day. There are plenty of beginners to go around, so competition is really not an issue at all for a person who loves both people and music.

What about adults?

Every year several million people retire from their jobs and careers, and many are looking to take up hobbies they never had time for before.

So if you are a musician looking to increase your income, look no farther. Get a business card and take out a couple low-cost classified ads in your local paper, or place a small ad in your local Yellow Pages. If youre a good teacher, you soon wont need to advertise at all word of mouth will take over and soon youll be teaching other family members and friends, so your expenses will drop to zero as your teaching income rises.

Thats nice work. And you CAN get it!

After graduating from Southern Oregon University with advanced degrees he founded Piano University a teaching studio for adults and children.

Ever wonder how to clean a coffee maker the right way? Drip coffee makers need to be cleaned at least once a month to keep your coffee tasting good.

Cleaning your coffee maker takes away hard water mineral deposits, old oils from previously brewed pots and other impurities that can make your coffee taste bad.

A mixture of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water is the best way to clean a drip coffee maker. Mix a full pot of the vinegar and water mixture, pour it in your water reservoir and turn the coffee maker on.

Once the mixture has run completely through, it's important to turn the drip coffee maker off and let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

Pour the vinegar and water mixture down the drain. If you are cleaning a coffee maker that hasn't been cleaned regularly, repeat this step again with a fresh vinegar and water mixture.

Next, rinse the pot out thoroughly with warm, plain water. Then, fill the water reservoir again with clean water and turn the coffee maker on to start the rinsing process.

To make sure all of the vinegar and water solution is completely gone repeat the rinsing process one more time after letting the pot cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

This is how to clean a coffee maker the right way. Cleaning your drip coffee maker on a monthly basis will make it last longer and keep your coffee tasting the best it can possibly be.
