Mel Bay The Bongo Book

Here's an entire book devoted to the all too often overlooked Latin instrument, the bongo drums. Trevor Salloum guides you on an inspired informative, and educational musical journey; offering many valuable insights of playing this instrument as well as revealing its colorful history. This text features jazz, rock, Danzon, Mozambique, and bomba patterns with fills, exercises, and performance techniques to get you going in these styles. Maintenance, characteristic rhythmic patterns, and important artists in the evolution of bongo technique are also covered in depth. The companion CD features recordings of the rhythm patterns discussed in the book.
Customer Review: Bongo Book
Serves its purpose well. It is the thinnist book I've ever seen, but hey it's about music. WHat more can you say. It isn't really worth the money. Get the CDs over this I recommend videos over both.
Customer Review: Not For Beginners!
The item description doesn't say that this book is for beginners. But based on the reviews I read it seemed like a good book for beginners. That was a horrific assumption. I don't blame the publisher for this, I blame other reviewers who lead readers to believe this is a good book for beginners. From the beginning this book uses all kinds of terminology that I've never heard of before (and I have played some keyboard, drums and guitar). Which leads me to wonder who this book is for because, in my opinion, anyone who can understand the terminology probably has no use for such a book. I do fault the publisher for the terribly exposed, grainy photographs. I also fault the publisher for allowing several interviews with bongo players which, in my opinion, do not belong in a book like this. The whole book just feels cheap as if it was quickly thrown together. As an absolute beginner what I would have liked to see is a more detailed explanation of technique along with photos (this book has a few photos, but most of them look the same, and the photos do not correlate with the techniques described in the text). I would also have liked to see more description of how to read the notation used in the book. And while I understand musical timing due to my previous experience an absolute beginner will have no clue as to what tempo the notes should be played, this is not described anywhere in the book. This is a very poorly executed and frustrating book about bongos. It borders on useless for a true beginner. If you are a beginning bongo player do not buy this book it will not help you learn to play the bongos and will give you nothing but frustration. I have no idea how a book like this ever made it to print.

Coldplay - a Rush of Blood To the Head

Problems with humidity can lead to heartbreak for the classical (or other) guitarist. Excessive humidity or dryness can ruin an instrument probably quicker than you think.

You must always be aware of what conditions you are leaving your instrument, whether inside a guitar case or within a room or in the open. They should NEVER be left in the sun for any length of time.

When guitars are built they are usually in an environment where the relative humidity of the room is kept constant, roughly around 50%.

To be safe you ideally should keep your instrument around this mark though they are generally regarded as safe between 40%-70% as the upper and lower margins. Below or above this can be drastic for your instrument!

An interesting example of anecdotal evidence of problems with humidity I've heard is with Ramirez guitars.

Because they're made in Spain where the humidity is often above the 50% mark and are shipped to areas where the humidity is much lower with dry winter conditions, they can easily develop cracks and slits throughout the guitar.

Having made an investment for such a beautiful guitar youd be mad not to invest in a relatively cheap system for keeping the humidity of your guitar constant, like a guitar humidifier case for example.

The damage caused by too much humidity or of drying out your instrument can range from cracks, splits and shrinkage to warping and even snapping of the wood.

There are many things you can do to prevent problems from the start. You know the old saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

I would recommend keeping your house, or wherever you keep your instrument, at a constant temperature and humidity all year round.

Next I would get a humidifier for my guitar case, whether one sold commercially which releases moisture slowly and attaches to the inside of your case, or a home-made one which could consist of a wet cloth (be careful not to let it touch your instrument as it may damage the wood).

Another thing to invest in is a "hygrometer", which is an instrument that will keep track of humidity, or lack of it in your guitar case. As mentioned above, some guitar cases are made with these things as standard.

If you follow these few simple rules and keep an eye out for changes in temperature and humidity conditions it shouldn't be hard to keep your instrument in good order.

LP RhythMix 6-pc. Rhythm Kit Set

2 yrs. & up. The amazing variety of great sounding instruments is everything a child needs to create a complete rhythm section! Perfect for a single child or a parade full of children, this great kit includes a handled drum, jingle stick, triangle, tone block, two Chick-itas, two mallets, and a child-sized backpack for convenient storage. Complete with musical activity booklet.

The guitar has a long and rich history. Guitar like musical instruments date back 5,000 years. There are six string guitars, four string bass guitars, twelve string guitars. Musical styles include blues guitar, rock guitar, folk guitar. There's acoustic steel string guitars, nylon string classical guitars, electric guitars with amplifiers. You can play with a plastic pick or fingerpick style. Melody lines or chords. The variety is endless.

By now I guess you can tell that I love the guitar. I love listening to guitar music but most of all I love playing. Years ago I decided to teach myself. I had a certain aptitude for music as I played the trumpet in my grammar school orchestra for a great music teacher who taught us how to read music. My big solo was the Mexican Hat Dance. I didn't continue with the trumpet but I yearned to be able to make music. So I bought a cheap six string and set out to become the next big thing. I bought a chord book, you know the kind which shows you where to put your fingers for each chord. I discovered that many songs use the simplest grouping of guitar chords. I was on my way.

I learned very rapidly that like anything else in life, if you want to get better at something, practice, practice, practice. My skills slowly progressed and now I'm pretty decent, if I do say so myself. I don't play in a band or on stage but I can grab my guitar and enjoy myself any time I want. It's fun, relaxing and rewarding.

Now, with the internet, there is a wealth of guitar instructional material available to all. I wish that when I was starting out (before the internet was even invented) I had access to the myriad of guitar courses now available. It sure would have saved me a lot of time.

Downloadable ebooks, video based training...there's even downloadable software to slow down a recorded guitar solo so you can play along and figure out the notes for yourself. We've sure come a long way haven't we ? These tools are fantastic and best of all no driving to music lessons, no boring scales and you can learn at your own pace. Couple of things to keep in mind:

Patience - Rome wasn't built in a day and no one becomes a guitar expert overnight. But with perseverance I believe anyone can learn to play the guitar.

Fingers - Steel strings are made of steel. At first your fingers will probably hurt like hell but give it time and practice and your fingertips will harden up.

I hope that I've imparted to you my love and enthusiasm for playing the guitar. If you want to make music with your hands learning to play the guitar is the way to go! As always, thanks for reading and for your valuable time.

I've done the research and found what I consider to be the top five online guitar courses. I sure wish these has been available when I was starting my guitar journey. They're available at http://www.reviewsbytheigmonster.com/

Customer Review: Close to being brilliant!!
"If you die your son will be like us. Fatherless." From a film-makers point of view, this film is a daunting task. It has many characters but still grasps your attention. There are so many very good foreign language films nowadays. I thought Tsotsi was top notch and now, City of Men. I mean, wow! The characters in the film are young men involved in gangs, carefully woven in their anger and paranoid youth is a sense of dread and being doomed. Excellent drama. This is a must watch for anyone who's remotely interested. There will be a scene where you will laugh really really hard. There's a little kid in the film that you'll want to cuddle. You'll never want to live the character's life though. Also ... it actually made me think about something most men don't ever think of. It's about fatherhood. Before I become incoherent, I'll just end by saying, this film is going to do really well and is a must must watch. Thankyou for reading.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT FOLLOW-UP TELEVISION SERIES IN THE SPIRIT OF CITY OF GOD
This series does not follow the exact story or timeline as the movie City Of God but it takes place in Rio de Janeiro in the Favela. I was entertained and pleased with the acting, cinematography, and realness. I almost felt that I was there and I could have been there in my younger years.

It never ceases to amaze me how little real credit is given to musicians and the music they create in a world that would be VERY different without it indeed!

Can you imagine the lack of suspense in even the greatest thriller movie without some chilling music creating the tension? How dull the atmosphere would be in a Saturday night town centre bar without music! Many TV & radio adverts just wouldn't work without music. Are you starting to get my drift?

The truth is that without realizing it music is an extremely important part of most peoples' lives and as such needs to be given great consideration when choosing a band for an important event like a Wedding, corporate event, function or the like. Having some form of musical entertainment is almost a must to ensure a great atmosphere, but just as important is which form!

As a professional musician myself, I have vast experience in many types of ensembles, from acoustic Jazz, folk & country though to electric blues, rock, funk and pop. All these genres have their place and some of the more obscure or specialist styles are the ones a musician will enjoy the most. However when choosing entertainment for a wedding, corporate event or party usually 'music lover' genres like blues, country, jazz etc. are completely the wrong choice! "Why?", you might ask.

Well the majority of the general public aren't what I'd call 'music lovers'. Many people can't hear a guitar solo on a record, they don't know what a bass is and quite frankly they don't care. They DO, however, know ALL the words to 'Come on Eileen'; they'll sing at the top of their voices to 'I Will Survive' and will ecstatically 'strut their stuff' to 'Car Wash' and 'Celebration'! Are you getting the picture? I've known bands with some of the finest musicians in their field, some which are so famous and renowned they have guitars named after them, be 'paid off' at weddings and asked not to play their last set because they were playing blues or the like. Probably the finest music you'll hear but non music lovers will simply never get it.

So if music's so important at an event, but great music in the 'music lover' sense is the wrong choice, how does one find a band that is made up of professional highly skilled musicians, yet plays out and out dance floor-filling classic pop tunes? Surely this is a contradiction in terms almost?! Well it's not - in fact there are many bands doing just that at an extremely professional level these days, usually made up of some of the UK's top session musicians too! One example of this kind of band is the function band 'Boogie Express'. Boogie Express is made up of only fully professional musicians who've played on lots of records, CD's and so on and have all worked with some of the biggest names in the business! What bands like this have done is to channel all their years of experience in both the music business and in show business into creating an 'ultimate' party band experience.

There are many bands similar to Boogie Express out there, and if you search Google and the like with terms like 'function band' you should find many more.

I do hope you find this article helpful in understanding the best way to incorporate great music and entertainment into an event and wish you all the best - what ever your musical tastes!

Have you recently bought a new Zune player and are itching to download music for Zune? But you simply do not know where is the best place to get that "S.O.S" by Jonas Brothers and "Bubbly" by Colbie Caillat. This entire article is written to show you the entire process to download music onto your digital portable player as well as where are the places owners like you get their Zune music downloads at the most reasonable prices.

You perhaps already know that you can find movies, music, videos and games for your player at iTunes and Microsoft's Zune marketplace and other online music stores like Amazon, HMV and more. At the marketplace, you can access millions of songs. For the price conscious, the price tag of $0.99 to $2 over for a piece of song at any of these music stores can really be a turn-off. Imagine how much it would cost to acquire hundreds of songs for your music collection?

Another option which is quite popular are the free download services. While these are generally free and you can download music for Zune to your heart's content, you are also exposing your PC to the adware and spyware that comes attached with the music downloads. The extent of damage to your computer may be pretty bad when you realize that your computer is slower.

There is a safe option to transfer songs to your digital portable player. Similar to any other MP3 players, you can rip songs from a CD and synchronize that onto your player. If you are familiar with music ripping, you should be quite comfortable to download music for Zune in this manner.

The process starts first when you open a media player like Windows Media Player. Insert the CD and select the songs or soundtracks you wish to download. Next, click on the Rip button. You should see the song list appearing in the Windows Media Player library. Using the USB cable, connect your player to your PC and your player would synchronize with the Windows Media Player library to download music for Zune.

Even if the player is not syncing well, it is fine. You can simply copy the music files manually onto your player and it would work just fine except for the extra step. On your windows explorer, you would always see your digital portable player as an additional drive. Be sure to download to it correctly.

Many first-timers do not know that the file formats for your music are important. It can only support compatible formats like MP3, MP4, MOV, WMV and WMA and not other formats. Some examples of unsupported formats are DivX and RM.

Another alternative you have to download music for Zune is the paid membership services. This is one hot favourite among music lovers nowadays since you can find millions of downloads, pretty much unlimited downloads of songs, music, movies, videos and games. And the nice thing is you get all these for a flat fee. There are no limits to the bandwidth consumption and you can download at any time of the day.

I believe that by now, you should have a good grasp of where you can download music for Zune and do so affordably in a safe and secured environment. Check out my blog dedicated to music, movies and videos on which are the reliable membership sites for unlimited music and song downloads.

Learn how you can get access to unlimited Zune downloads - quality and latest music, movies, videos and games for your Zune player instantly. Also, find out if there really are free unlimited Zune downloads?
